Frequently asked questions:
Some of my guests may not be able to attend – can I swap games at the last minute?
At Red Herring Games we understand how difficult it can be to organise a dinner party! Which is why, at no additional cost we will substitute your purchased game to a smaller number of players. However, please give us at least 2 working days to process a request!
If you suspect you will lose just one couple, then give that couple (or yourselves) the last two optional characters on your game (you can check this by looking at a lower numbered game to see who is missed off). That way, if the couple can’t make it, everyone else can still come as the characters you originally asked them to be.
I need an odd number of players – can a game be adapted?
If we have notice, then at Red Herring Games we will try and accommodate any unusual requests, e.g. 3 men and 5 women, 6 men and 3 women etc. As a general rule we cannot reduce to a ratio of male : female below 3 : 3. Any requests for this should be made with at least 2 weeks advance notice, and you should check with us first before buying a game to ensure we are not too busy to meet your timescale. When you make contact we will be able to tell you whether your request is possible and what number game to buy. We regret that we are unable to alter the voice recording speeches at this time. Any alterations will be made to the inspector booklets, but the voice over will still contain the additional omitted characters. Do Red Herring Games sell boxed games?
A quick response to this is “NO”. However, our games are comparable to the best boxed games presently on the market and you get customer support as well! If you were looking to purchase a game as a gift, then why not buy a game and customise the game yourself using our free information sheets for a totally unique present, or contact us for a voucher code which can be redeemed against any small group game. The character booklets don’t seem to be printing in order – how do I put them together? The character booklets are designed to be printed single sided. If you are struggling to follow the printed guide contained inside the “how to use this game” file, then download our “idiot’s guide” in the free information sheet section. This pictorial guide will walk you through it. If you would prefer the booklets to print double sided then we can reformat the booklets for you if you give us notice. However, be warned, double sided printing is not easy and poses numerous problems for people unless they are very good with printers or have a double sided printer. (We never recommend it). So, unless you are confident you can make it work - stick with the single sided printing and format the booklets as detailed in the idiot’s guide. I need a game for an 11, or 12 year old. Which game should I buy? 11 and 12 years of age is an awkward time in a child’s life. Children of this age will either enjoy the children’s party games or the 6-12 player dinner party games dependant on their maturity. Please remember, the dinner party games are rated TEEN not for their suitability for teenagers but for content. Most games in this category will contain no more strong language/themes than you would find in an average 12 rated film, however the language or plot lines may be complicated for young minds to understand. In most cases the scripted dialogues between rounds acts as a good guide for the rated content within the games. If you see a game you like the sound of, then download the free sample booklet to act as a gauge of content. If you are still unsure of the suitability of a game, then please drop email us at email us at: games@red-herring-games.co.uk to clarify the content of a particular game. I don’t have a paypal account. Can I still buy a game? Of course! We use PayPal as our payment processing system as it is the easiest (and cheapest for you as a customer). You do NOT need a PayPal account to pay. If you wish to use a credit/debit card the click on the “continue” box on the lower left of the payment screen and it will take you to a screen where you type in all your card details and pay in the usual manner. If you struggle to pay using PayPal for any reason, e.g. you are a charitable organisation and prefer to pay with a cheque or by BACS please get in touch. When I try to open the files I get a "file conversion" box, and if I open the files in MSword all I get is gobbledegook. What am I doing wrong? The files within the zip folder you download are either PDF, for which you need adobe reader or similar (you can download that free of charge from a variety of places on the internet simply type "adobe reader" into google and see what comes up), or MP3, for the inspector parts. MP3 files can be played by windows media or similar. You will not be able to open these files without the correct software. They will not open with MS office. If you do not have winzip on your computer you can also obtain that free of charge from many sites on the internet. The MP3 files contained within the small group games are large, which is why we have to use the winzip compression software to transmit them to you. If you are still experiencing problems then please get in touch! We are here to help.
I have a paypal gift voucher - but when I put the voucher code into the checkout area it is invalid. What have I done wrong? Paypal gift voucher codes are only redeemable on the paypal site. Please DO NOT enter them during the check out process - instead, when you are directed to paypal, enter them there. They will entitle you to a £15 discount, which in effect means you can use them to download many of our games for free.
